Bowa Construction provided construction management services
for the conversion of the McCormick Place Convention Center
into a COVID-19 alternate care facility. The temporary facility,
designed to relieve pressure on City of Chicago hospitals,
contains a total of 3,000 beds throughout all three halls of the
convention center separated by level of care required. Halls A and
C consist of three-sided hard cubes with a curtain front including
nurses stations and nurse call capability. Hall B consists of
a total of 750 beds including contained patient isolation pods
with negative pressure. A rack system behind the pods houses
the duct work, piping and conduits for medical gas, HVAC and
the electrical and mechanical connections necessary to feed air,
electric and medical gas to each pod.
