Bowa Construction provided construction management services
for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.’s 31,000 SF World
Headquarters Renovation project. The three-story, interior
build-out includes new perimeter and open office spaces, a pantry
and cafe area, new reception and elevator lobbies, as well as new
flooring and millwork finishes. In addition new MEP and
electrical systems were installed in order to improve energy
efficiency throughout the building including electric switchgear and
new LED lighting. Additional scope included replacement of
existing glass to new insulated glazing, new air handling and
cooled condensing units and the renovation of six total bathrooms
including new fixtures and equipment.
Bowa also provided maximum practicable diversity inclusion achieving 40% subcontractor and 100% CM M/W/DBE participation, as well as accomplishing 30% local community hiring opportunities. This was accomplished through local subcontractor databases, conducting meetings with selected community zip codes and encouragement of alliances between subcontractors and M/W/DBE contractors in order to foster growth and development.
